Nine university students, IUSF convener arrested over illegal protest

Colombo, May 16 (Daily Mirror) - At least nine university students including the convenor of the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) were arrested by the police for engaging in an illegal protest in front of the Ministry of Health this afternoon. 
 
Accordingly, a group of protesters including IUSF convenor Madushan Chandradith have been taken into custody by the Maradana Police for violating a court order, the Police Media Desk said.

The protest march had been organised by the Allied Health Science Graduates’ Union over several demands.
The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court this morning issued an order preventing a group of protestors from entering the Hospital Square, Colombo and from disrupting hospital activities from 12.00 noon today (16) to 5.00pm tomorrow.
The arrested students are presently being detained at the Maradana Police station.
