Mahinda Yapa new Speaker, Siyambalapitiya Dy. Speaker Ranjith

The new government’s parliament decided today to nominate Matara district MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane as the Speaker of the new Parliament, Kegalle district MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya as the Deputy Speaker and Jaffna district MP Angajan Ramanathan as the Deputy Chairman of Committees.

Also, the government will present a Vote on Account to Parliament on August 28 to seek parliamentary approval for expenditure needed for the remaining period of this year. A fully-fledged budget is to be presented in November, this year. (Kelum Bandara)
