A 26-year-old man who had entered Sri Lanka via sea route illegally from Tamil Nadu in India has been sent to quarantine, Police said.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that the Sri Lankan had left the country in 2008 through the BIA and was living in a rehabilitation camp in Tamil Nadu.

The man reported to have returned to the country in a fishing boat from Tamil Nadu on August 8 and was hiding in a relative's house in Gurunagar, Jaffna.

The spokesman said the Jaffna Police traced the person following a tip off and the police and health officials have directed the man to serve a 14-day quarantine period.

SDIG Rohana said at the end of the quarantine period, legal action will be taken against that man under the Immigration and Emigration Act as well as for violating quarantine rules.(DSB)
