Govt issues circular to confirm temporary staff as permanent

Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - The government has issued a circular to grant permanent appointments to employees currently serving on a temporary, casual (daily), substitute, contract or concessionary basis in government institutions.

According to the circular, the move is aimed at regularising the service conditions of eligible employees and ensuring greater job security within the public sector. It applies to staff working across various government ministries, departments, and statutory bodies.

Officials said the process will be carried out based on specified criteria, including years of service, performance evaluations, and existing vacancies within the respective institutions.

The circular further instructs relevant authorities to take necessary steps to identify eligible employees and submit required documentation for the confirmation of permanent appointments.

The initiative is expected to address long-standing concerns among public sector workers regarding job stability and employment status.
