Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - A fire broke out at the Kalutara Regional Office of the Inland Revenue Department on last night (April 30), prompting immediate response measures, authorities said.
According to a public notice issued by Commissioner General of Inland Revenue Rukdevi P.H. Fernando, the department’s central data system remains secure and unaffected by the incident. The system is managed by the Head Office and supported by a dedicated Data Security Center with stringent safeguards, ensuring that tax administration data has not been compromised.
Officials said that steps are underway to restore normal operations, including re-establishing system connectivity through remote access. Efforts are being made to resume services at the Kalutara office as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the public has been advised to seek urgent tax-related services typically handled by the Kalutara Regional Office through the nearest Regional Office or Taxpayer Service Units at the Head Office.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are being carried out by the police and other relevant authorities.
