Dengue cases rise in Sri Lanka; 14 deaths reported so far

Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka has recorded 14 dengue-related deaths and 26,775 dengue cases so far this year ,according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).

Community Medical Specialist Dr. Prashila Samaraweera said that one child death has been reported and 45% of the patients are from the Western Province.

She noted that the highest cases have been reported within the Western, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces.

She said that a mosquito control week is being implement among 111 health medical divisions in 16 districts.

Health teams will visit high-risk areas to destroy dengue mosquito breeding spots and legal action will be taken against those who fail to keep their surroundings clean.

The mosquito control program will be implemented from June 30 to July 5, and the public is urged to support the clean-up efforts and stay alert, as the country continues to face the threat of dengue outbreaks.
