Cabinet nod to scrap special benefits for former Presidents and MPs

Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to cancel special privileges given to former Presidents and to stop the pension scheme for Members of Parliament after their term of five years.

The proposal, submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration, received Cabinet approval. Under the proposal, the Legal Draftsman’s Department will be instructed to prepare two draft bills to amend the relevant laws, namely, the Presidents’ Entitlements Act No. 4 of 1986 and the Parliamentary Pensions Law No. 1 of 1977.
