Following social media posts portraying children in Baduraliya struggling to attend classes due to poor internet connectivity, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has dispatched a team to the area to rectify the issue.

In a Facebook post the Commission said that teams were dispatched promptly when the issue was brought to their attention. The posts which were circulated and shared by many netizens showed several children studying, sitting with their books and mobile device on a roadside boulder, in an attempt to gain 4G connectivity in order to follow online lessons.

“The "Gamata Sannivedanaya" project was launched with exactly the core objective of ensuring no area is left uncovered with broadband connectivity which was endorsed as a national project on the Budget 2021,” TRC said.

Telecom service providers who were also called to the site in Kelinkanda in Baduraliya have collaborated to ensure that Kelinkanda and adjacent areas are covered with 4G connectivity over the next two weeks, TRC said.

The Director General of TRCSL has personally visited the area along with these teams accompanied by the Divisional Secretary of Palinda Nuwara, Baduraliya. (Kalani Kumarasinghe)
