Amber alert for severe lightning issued across several provinces

Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning in several parts of the country, effective from noon today (01) until 11.30 p.m.

The warning covers the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-Central provinces, as well as the districts of Vavuniya, Mullaittivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Kurunegala and Trincomalee.

According to the advisory, thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning are likely to occur in these areas after 1.00 p.m.

The department also cautioned that temporary, localized strong winds may develop during thundershowers.
