100mm rain due to current low pressure near island: Met dept.

Due to the current low pressure area persisting in the vicinity of the country, heavy showers of more than 100 mm could be expected in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva in the and Western provinces and in Trincomalee district, the Meteorology Department said.

They said there would be thundershowers in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Eastern and Uva provinces in the evening and night.

Therefore, the general public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions to safeguard themselves from damages due to squall and lightning during thundershowers, the department said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
