The Official Secrets Act of 1955 does not provide to prevent anyone from travelling along roads where important state buildings are located and thus declare these areas as high security zones, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Gayantha Karunatilaka said today.

MP Karunatilaka told a press conference that this legislation only provides provisions to prevent information on important state institutions from leaking out for their security. “It’s a wrong interpretation of the Official Secrets Act of 1955 on the part of the government,” he said.

“What has been done today is to prevent access to the roads and sub roads which lead to the Presidential Secretariat, the Janadipathi Mandiraya (President’s House, Prime Minister’s office and Temple Trees. In other words, the public have been barred from entering into locations where the protest sites such as GotaGoGama and MyinaGoGama were in the recent past. However the Official Secrets Act of 1955 does not provide any provisions under which the public are called upon to get permission from either IGP or DIG in the respective areas to access the roads on which high security zones are located,” the MP said.

“Declaration of high security zones will give rise to more aggressive protests in the near future,” he added. (Yohan Perera)

RW is a Dictator who imposes anti social laws. RW consented to the Constitutional reforms to remove Presidential powers. Why is he not doing it? He wants to enjoy the dictatorial powers

it is time thte SJB got on the streets along with the JVP and support the Aragalaya. Do not expect a free ride. Please not that Ranil is Ranil and not President Ranil. He is a "Pina" and just call him Ranil. This is for all SJB members. Take the JVP as an example.

In the final weeks of desperados, they take desperate actions. That is what our unelected “Christian” President is doing in a Buddhist-Hindu-Muslim country.

Claim of protecting the sites may be legitimate and come within the purview of 'Official Secrets Act', if evidence or proof is available, when unauthorised entry by Aragalaya to these specific sites the Official Secrets were compromised??!!

This guys tuition master seems to be the ex- ailed president MS! We need stability now to come out of the misery, not sabotage like these guys would wish to bring on to create mayhem for their narrow political advantage. People and nation first, politicians and political last please. Thank you.

Secret information do not travel by road. It travels in air waves. If somebody in the buildings farts, it does not travel by road or enter through gates. This is common sense. It is strange that politicians opt to inform this to the public. One thing for sure. These politicians contribute nothing to the development of the nation. They only fart when they open their mouths.

Until SJB speak about cutting the military, for the massive burden it has on our economy, this is just split the hair talk. Probably copy cat the BASL court paper talk. Government can easily create new law, and get new gazette, but good to keep the government/bastard honest, so minimise their lackadaisically tried tricks.
