President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was not even to be seen when the country is facing the worst crisis in its history, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said today.

He urged the government to form an all-party government at least now and formulate a programme to win confidence - locally and internationally.

He told Parliament that the country is under a self-imposed curfew due to the fuel crisis and that there was no solution in sight to these burning issues.

"People are languishing in miles-long queques near IOC sheds. Neither the Prime Minister nor the Energy Minister are to be seen in the House in this calamitous situation of the country,”he said.

MP Weerawansa said the time spent in Parliament should be dedicated to find a solution to the present crisis without wasting time to answer 50 odd questions raised by MPs.

He said the present administration in the country has not been able to win the international confidence and urged the government to form an all-party government at least now and formulate a programme so as to win the confidence locally and internationally without aggravating the crisis further.

"Even though some people believe that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe could win the international confidence, it has not been so. He is a single MP in Parliament who was rejected by the people,” he said.

Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardene said it was agreed to take up 50 questions at the party leaders meeting and it should go as planned.

“It is true that people are facing acute fuel crisis. We, as ministers are also facing similar difficulties. We also have no special mechanism to obtain fuel. The Energy Minister will inform the House about the action that has been taken,’ he said.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

The President must be busy having regular discussions with the Armed Services Commanders and giving them instructions as to how any uprising of the people should be suppressed.
