The executive committee of the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union yesterday assured that the statement made by the union’s head, Upul Rohana regarding the toxic Thriposha stocks was correct.

Addressing the media PHI President M.N.H. Nihal claims that the Thriposha stocks distributed to pregnant and breast-feeding mothers and infants contain more Aflatoxin than Mr. Rohana claimed.

Moreover, the union claimed that the distributed Thriposha  was not suitable for human consumption and that the union had taken all actions and informed all relevant institutions in this regard.

As a responsible union, we do not make irresponsible statements. All the statements we used to make were based on evidence and proof, Nihal added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Minister was irresponsible to contradict the test results? What information did the minister based on? At least did he pay his electricity bill in full?

And the clueless Minister goes to town in Parliament trying to prove otherwise. These guys want to show that they are always right. My foot!

The manufacturers of faulty or toxic products can easily bribe the authorities like SLS and continue to market the products. It does not matter to them if people get sick or die. No one is accountable and no one will go to prison for it. Gas explosions no one went to prison. Same story for most things.

Prefer for two separate overseas independent lab to either confirm or refute the claims of the PHIs. That's after if initial check Sri Lankan laboratory finds it perhaps perfectly safe. After the Organic fertilizer shipment fiasco, I feel more trusting of at least two separate overseas laboratories as local labs might be prone to nationalist biases, or bribery.
