Govt. trying to privatise health care under the guise of reviving economy: GMOA The government was trying to privatise the whole health sector, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has charged.
While addressing the media, GMOA General Secretary Dr Senal Fernando said the health system was in a state of despair due to the economy and fuel crisis in the country.
"It is clear that the government is trying to privatise the health sector under the guise of reviving the economy. The health ministers in the current government and even in previous governments had conspiracies to destroy the health system in the country, "Dr Fernando said.
He said it was very clear that there was a conspiracy to privatise the free health system of these people.
Therefore, the GMOA central committee, which gathered yesterday, decided to launch concerted trade union actions against any attempt by the government to privatise the health system under the guise of reviving the economy, Dr Fernando said.
"The government had deliberately collapsed the health system in the country," he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

What's wrong? Healthcare and Health Education should and can be privatised with a safety net for the lower strata of people. It is the Kalakanni GMOA as a Trade Union standing in the way of prosperity.

They won't be able to do OnCall duty while staying at home and they won't be granted neither fuel allow or vehicle permit as Maina did if healthcare sector is privatized.

Health care needs to be privatised because the GMOA has failed miserably over the years. Once privatised either they work or get kicked out.

GMOA helped the rogues to come to power. GMOA is worried, if health is privatised GMOA will have to work harder according to rules and cannot relax the way it does now.

No other country in the world has free education and health care. There is huge loss in not privatising. They MUST be privatised.

Pack of thieves that went on strike for perks when our country had medicine. Dr Padeniya pushed for agricultural farming to cut deals with Gota. This organisation is full of opportunists that care little for the welfare of our people.

It is better do something to function hospitals effectively than having healthcare facilities with no medicine and services which is more catastrophic . If health care practitioners are allowed to practice in private there is nothing wrong with this decision. Govt hospitals should restructure cost of treatment based on income.
