The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has urgently informed the government to increase the fuel prices and electricity tariffs immediately, to reflect the cost.
The request was announced today by the CBSL Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal following a press briefing.
He also mentioned that urgent measures should be taken to compliment the efforts taken by the Central Bank to overcome the present economic challenges and to ensure that a coordinated approach is adopted to overcome the challenging economic circumstances faced by the country and to prudently exit the COVID-related policy accommodation. Fuel is overdue. Others should be increased along with increased power cut times, if not how to improve the economy?

I am not an Economist but a ordinary citizen in this country. Government should have taken this decision earlier.

CBSL coming up with brilliantly solutions after sleeping until FX crisis. The problem is not price but availability of electricity and fuel even at Rs1,000 per unit.

I have a 8.9 kw solar panel which generates 45 units per day. But due to this power cuts we get only 20 units per day. Causing a net loss for every body.

Cabraal, already we have two meals per day. Now parents have to forego their two meals to see that their children get at least two meals a day.

Why not limit one vehicle per household.

Didn't CB Governor say there is no crisis and the $ issue is simple to resolve?

Why not limit one meal per family for a day! People are practically starving anyway!

Prices are too low. I do not see anyone turning lights off to save money. If it made more expensive it make people think before switching on or getting in the car.

Remove Cabraal, who is making the government unpopular with his directives to burden the poor. Stubbornness will leads to doomsday.
