Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who played a key role cobbling together an alliance to install the previous Yahapalana government came to the forefront yesterday by calling for a meeting with the political parties and groups opposed to the government to discuss the way out of the current political crisis.
The meeting was attended by MPs Kumara Welgama, Patali Champika Ranawaka and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem , Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran and others. Mr. Premadasa did not wait till the end of the meeting.
She discussed the need to appoint a committee to identify priorities to be done at this time because of differences among the parties opposed to the government on the way forward. The main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) insists that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should step down as the first step to consider any interim arrangement.
However, the parties and the group that declared independent of the government are not in favour of removal of the president. Also, there is no consensus among them on the next leadership in the event of the Cabinet standing dissolved or the president stepping down.
Therefore, at yesterday’s meeting, the parties decided to form a committee to identify what is be done. They decided that general consensus should be there on the political steps to be taken even after the interim administration. (Kelum Bandara)

This power hungry woman has done enough stupid things to slow down the economy and now trying to achieve her personal agenda sighting political and economic crisis, end results will be masses suffering and destroying what we have and economy. Enjoy your retirement, never again for nepotism including Rajapakse, Premadasa or Uncle Nephew Party. JVP destroying what we have. We need a new honest leadership, not from the current lot!

CBK is targeting the Rajapakses rather than addressing the root causes of the problems which even includes her decisions back when she was President. A country that plans to spend more than what it earns year after year after year is planning to fail and now it has happened. We kept quiet for years and now when we are groping in the dark and dying in queues we wake up and blame the very people whom we have voted to power 225 1. Aren't we a joke?

Best decision to over come this political blockage and political dilemma ...While the country is suffering and People face such huge difficulties some even try to catch fish at this movement as v.nsnayalaka and others ...they know that their time in power is limited . I welcome CKB and this alliance .at least some good people in this groups ... lesser evils between all political evils .... We need to come up with some sort of final solution for this problem . So we should prioritise what is important in order of preference . Now people need basic needs . That is basic and we can't ignore it .. We need to reschedule loan payment and we need to go to IMF and world bank and beyond . All this can be done with good and honest leadership
