The Qatari government has decided to pardon and release 20 Sri Lankans who have been imprisoned for various offences while working in Doha, in view of the holy month of Ramazan.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said many prisoners have been pardoned on account of the holy month by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruler of Qatar.
In addition to the imprisonment, they have also been released from penalties to be paid by the courts in that country, the Bureau said.
On behalf of Ramazan, the SLBFE commends the Qatari rulers for having granted this amnesty. (Chatruanga Samarawickrama)
