President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has created a new Ministry for Public Security and placed the Police service under its purview. This is in addition to the Technology Ministry established by him under the same gazette notification.

In addition to the Police Department, three other institutions - Sri Lanka Police Training College, Civil Defence Department, Department of Multi-Purpose Development Task Force - have been placed under it.
Daily Mirror learns that State Minister Sarath Weerasekara is tipped to be the Cabinet Minister of this newly
created ministry.

The President will keep the Defence Ministry in terms of powers vested with him under the newly enacted 20th Amendment. He is also likely to keep the new Technology Ministry.
