The United Youth Artistes' Forum emphasized the importance of maintaining the stability that the country has achieved and called for assistance for artistes who they claim have become helpless in the wake of the economic crisis. Artistes Senaka Wijesinghe, Rajitha Hiran and Kumar Jayakatha were among those who voiced these concerns at a media briefing. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana

They should have known better that acting is not a permanent job. As long as they have the looks they'll get a chance. Instead of whining over assistance, they should have involved in another career.

There should be a govenment policy to pay them a monthly salary. They are more likely to have have difficulty due to their job, and they are essential.

Those 65 years and Above Must Cease to Be Politicians Saturday, 11 May 2024 04:14 AM

If it’s not working, upgrade and move onto another line of work. AI penetration into the working system is affecting many jobs globally too. Politicians need to be savvy to assist the people and country develop. Unfortunately in SL, most helping themselves to develop during their term in power. Ranil is the one making decisions and few of the ministers are getting it across. Recent Visa - VFS saga is an example where 2 ministers, Harin and Tiran are involved but still not sorted out amicably. Ranil will eventually make the final decision in the next cabinet meeting. Old politicians can’t perform in this fast pace environment and decision making is time base. Those above 65 and those already have served 2 terms should not be voted and stop being involved in politics. Renewal and rejuvenating the political system will allow fresh ideas and change the political landscape to ensure consistent results for the country and people.

Yes. Welcome Idea!! We need Artists of all “Forms and Shape” to keep us General Public entertained so that we forget about the "Trials and Tribulations" faced by the General Public, in the face of Vast Deprivation of Essentials and Near STARVATION, so that Masses wouldn't attempt a REVOLUTION!? GOOD IDEA!?? Excellent Comedians are the need of the Hour!!?? How much we miss, NATASHA – the Stand-Up Comedian – perhaps with the exception of some CONTENT!!?? That’s very sincerely from the heart!? MEAN IT!!??

These are not youths. These are who have gone round and round he gardens after politicians and now bunked with no work and bonkered. What do you guys want? To be looked after with Tax payers' money? For what?

AI Penetration would even Make It More Challenging Saturday, 11 May 2024 10:55 AM

Absolutely. They need to adapt to the situation since they are “youth”! Anyways, all need to be ready for drastic changes once AI is adopted in full steam similarly how smart phones penetrated into everyone’s lives. Developed and developing countries are brazing themselves for this new revolution. Just be ready and have an open mind as things gonna to change big time!

They have charged for their gigs; they have not done things for free. Besides, if they call themselves artists and actors, what would you call Joe Abewickrama, Tony, Gemini, Malani, Vimal Kumar de Costa, J.H. Jayawardana, Samuel, Annesley, Berty and Co., who really should have been looked after by all of us for all the quality entertainment given to us? These individuals, unable to gather a sizeable community due to lack of unity among themselves, campaign and cry in bits and pieces from time to time, requesting to be looked after and trying to find an easy way. How can you label any of them as actors? Is there an authority to determine legends, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, extras, novices pending rating, etc.?

Yes, you earned a lot for a regime change. Stand on your own without ruining yourself anymore.

These guys, the moment they find fame and fortune they lose their heads. Moreover, can't these men find more manly jobs? Cringeworthy!
