1 August 2012 10:37 am - 48     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara is among five international stars nominated for this year’s people’s choice award, the International Cricket Council said.

Others are India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, South Africa’s duo Vernon Philander and Jacques Kallis and England’s James Anderson, the Dubai-based ICC said.

Former skipper Sangakkara (2011) and Tendulkar (2010) have won the LG People’s Choice Award in the past.

The short-list, nominated by an elite panel of cricket experts headed by former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, along with Sri Lanka’s MarvanAtapattu, England’s Clare Connor, West Indies Carl Hooper and Australia’s Tom Moody was selected using criteria set out by LG and the ICC.

Fans can decide on the winner by unity to decide the winner, by accessing an application: ICC’s official Facebook page

Voting will be open until midnight UAE time on August 31, with the winner to be announced on September 15 at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo. (LBO)

Sanga's gonna win hands down. Legends usually do!

    Fair N Square Thursday, 02 August 2012 11:45 AM

Sanga is the best choice of the lot even with current perfomance level, BUT Indians will use the power of the computer and their expertize to see Sachin take it away. To a billion or more Sachin is God in a way. that much they worship the game of cricket and Sachin too... Yet my vote is for Sanga...

    Nodrog Wednesday, 01 August 2012 12:48 PM

Sanga deserves the award but if its a vote then Sachin will win as millions of Indians will vote for him.

    Ruwan W. Wednesday, 01 August 2012 01:03 PM

    crilll Friday, 03 August 2012 06:40 AM

U knw the batting average between sanga and sachin recent years???

    Kuriosity Thursday, 02 August 2012 05:19 AM

Since its a public voting system and if there is any Indian in the nomination list, and no matter how good the other nominations are it would be the Indian who woudl win. Anyway VOTE for Sanga and good luck

Game Over Thursday, 02 August 2012 05:09 AM

Not necessarily ... Last year, both of them were in it and Sanga beat Sachin to the award. So don't give up hope or think negative. it is not only Sri Lankan cricket fans who adores this Awesome cricketing gentleman.

    molan Saturday, 04 August 2012 04:19 AM

Hi Regan Is this why he is known as sangukaran? One who possess the sangu?

super shot Wednesday, 01 August 2012 04:23 PM

Bikechain Bubbleband Wednesday, 01 August 2012 05:14 PM

Sanna, Well we are anxiously awaiting you to become the SL's captain again, your good old friend Mehela has to go out to save SriLanka from a Cricket disaster. All the best.

Godagampala Rohana Wednesday, 01 August 2012 05:18 PM

Sanga is the right choice, no doubt. Currently his performance is on high standards non of the SL plyaers, even Jayasuriya achieved the same status. Good luck Sanga.

    saji Friday, 03 August 2012 07:42 AM

    SANGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!gud luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    MAXd Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:39 AM

    Congratz Sanga!
But i doubt sanga's contribution towards the performance of the team. SL is now among WL, NZ, Bang category. Individual performances come 2nd. Re-call 96 era. We are no way near that team.

    salman Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:37 AM

People from Kanday and Trinity are so proud of you Sanga. In Sri Lanka it is only Kadyans can create and breake the world records. You and Murali are made us so proud.

    #Pietersen Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:45 AM

Sanga is not just a great cricketer but a great human he deserves this award.....!! I vote for Sanga...!!

Simple Simon Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:43 AM

Wrong...lasat year Dhoni also was nominated but Sanga still won ! Which means lots people from other coutnries voted for Sanga

    AMAR Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:43 AM

Sanga ia the choice. No doubt about it.But, since Sachin is there, all Indians will vote for him. They will not vote for Sanga. It is a matter of quantity of people, not quality of people, then obviously it will go on Indians way...! Is it fair...?

    abuzamil Wednesday, 01 August 2012 06:09 PM

    Azmi Wednesday, 01 August 2012 06:28 PM

It's the best way to get better and stay motivated as a cricketer, extraordinary cricketer ever born in the history of sri lankan cricket.

    Roshanally Thursday, 02 August 2012 07:05 AM

Accept Sanga is a great cricketer but I pity your ignorance that you have not seen or heard of greats like CI Gunasekera, Sathaivam, Gamini Goonasena, Michael Tissera etc.

    solico Thursday, 02 August 2012 06:50 AM

why not Mahela after losing the series by dropping a catch
