Police thwart attempts to honour LTTE in Jaffna

The police today prevented an attempt by two Northern Provincial Council members to commemorate slain LTTE members by lighting camphor at the Council’s main entrance.

NPC member M.K. Shiwajilingam and Ananthi Shashidaran had attempted to light camphor at the entrance of the closed building in Jaffna. Mrs. Shashidaran’s husband -Elleen was a slain LTTE leader.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the NPC said the members had not taken his approval for lighting camphor.

Stopping a public commemoration of murderous LTTE is not a dictatorial act. It is the law of the country and is approved by all the decent people in Sri Lanka. Mrs. Shashidaran is free to have a private commemoration for a husband.

This is very good. Now atleast international countries can see where is the reconciliation and the meaning of reconciliation. Mr & Co please keep it up. One day there will be solution and that day is not too far.

Malij! Your comments make me sick…...SL government propaganda to the world that LTTE forcefully recruited child soldiers...Aren’t these children who died in this war deserve to have a memorial?
There were thousands innocent civilians died during the crossfire or by celebrate act by both the government soldiers and LTTE. They all deserved to be remember on this day.
Only in SL you can’t mourn for dead! What a sick minded people ruling this country.
