Youngsters refusing to take vaccines plunging country at risk

Referring to the hesitancy shown by the younger population to receive the COVID vaccine, Chairman of State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said it could result in high danger increasing the viral loads in the society.

He told Daily Mirror that the turnout of young people to vaccination centres is extremely low at present.

“The young people may not get the illness severely. But it will continue the viral loads in society. If the viral loads remain in the society, it can give rise to new variants,” he pointed out.

“In such a situation, a variant could develop within the society, which is not responding to current vaccines resulting in high danger. That’s why the WHO recommends that the vaccination should be done to reduce the viral loads,” Dr Gunasena highlighted.

He said if the viral load goes down and herd immunity develops, the risk of emerging a new variant is very much less.

“Thus, it is imperative to encourage young people and others to get the vaccine without further delay,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

The pandemic in Sri Lanka is over due to herd immunity by natural infections. There will not be any new wave. There is no need to vaccinate anyone anymore.

I think unvaccinated people do not try to enter public places unnecessarily, because those people who got vaccinated are there without complying the health guideline. Actually vaccinated people even does not know they get infected. So it is better to avoid public places in the future weather you get vaccinated or not.

Simply bring legislation to make vaccination compulsory to engage in professions serving the public. Also to apply for overseas jobs and for overseas travel vaccination should be compulsory.

Get what ever the vaccine available if you are not vaccinated yet. Government should set a deadline for those who are not getting vaccines without any valid reason. Impose heavy penalty and also do not allow them to enter any public place. Do this using a special gazette.

Cancer is more dangerous compared to Covid, why don't you people protest against companies who produce food using chemicals which leads to cancer. If wearing mask doesn't stop us from getting the virus what's the purpose of wearing the mask? If wearing mask stops the virus coming in what's the purpose of getting the vaccine? Covid has become a soup because of so called medical professionals. First request the WHO to go for a thorough RESEARCH rather than coming up with assumptions.

I am from Germany and am fully vaccinated. Again, unfortunately, there are people who are against vaccination. It is up to the education about the vaccines. One should not only concentrate on the statements of naturopaths but also on the medical. In Germany, people have also relied on statements from doctors and now they are of the opinion that only if you vaccinate as many as possible can you defeat the virus.

The youth is uninterested regarding Sinopharm due to various reasons including the fact that they (Sinopharm) is not recognized worldwide hence affecting their future plans. Completely agree with @Fedup Youth. The entire Pfizer vaccination campagine was heavily politized from day one. Something does add up when very select areas of the Hamanthotha and Puttalam district were prioritized with the Pfizer jabs over Colombo. Several reasons for this could be: 1) To secure more votes in these areas. 2) Prevent Colombo folks from aspiring to migrate/study abroad- this also stops the country's "brain drain". People should have a preference to choose their jabs for their own bodies. Nobody has the right to dictate what others should be putting into their own bodies. Labeling such people as " anti-vaxxers" and "vaxxer-phobes" isn't gonna help this campaign.

Playing with people's life using covid and vaccines, many vaccinated people got affected and died also. Now, in north part, death body became a business. One should pay 6000/- for MC then, from hospital, death body is handed over to some people, they are charging 60000 to 70000/- to cremate the body. High business is happening, so due to this, even a normal death put into the covid-death list. Where is the human nature? We all living in Lord Buddha's land and his preaching are given to mankind to show love and mercy on each others and follow the rightous path.
