The Vega Innovation Company today officially received the registration numbers for the fully electric, two-seater supercar "Vega" and for the electric three-wheelers manufactured by the company.

The registration numbers were handed over by the Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana today at Vega Innovation Company.

Vega is South Asia’s first fully electric two-seater supercar, handmade with a carbon fiber body and powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive drivetrain. All automotive electronics, including the liquid cooled motor controllers and Li-ion battery packs, are designed and manufactured in-house, showcasing some of the most advanced technologies in the EV supercar space.

The decision was announced with the concept of promoting the inclusion of environmentally friendly electric vehicles in Sri Lanka as a solution to the existing fuel crisis and financial issues, the Minister said.

"The aim of this project is to popularize the three-wheeler, which is fully charged by electricity, as a more environmentally friendly product among the people. Any manufacturer will get the ability to produce and register their electric three-wheelers in Sri Lanka in the future," he said.

In addition to manufacturing electric three-wheelers, Vega Innovation Company also converts fuel-powered three-wheelers to run on electricity. In addition to three-wheelers, many other vehicle models, including high-tech electric cars and motorcycles, have already been produced by the Vega.

The minister also joined the observation of several institutions involved in the introduction of new products, including the Vega Innovation Company located in the Maradana Trace Complex. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

We can save dollars now ...if Sri Lankan companies could produce small motorbikes; three-wheelers; cars ; vans and other vehicles we could save a lot money ...let us out engineers make an small industrial revolution in Sri Lanka ..now technology spread fast ..online facilities help our engineers to innovate new ideas and new products ..this should go beyond motor industry to all other industries such as building and agricultural sectors ..Sri Lanka could come out of this all crisis within 10 years if only we have good politicians and hard working people ... 1) Develop SME industries 2) develop agricultural sectors 3) increse exports of local products both agricultural and other products. 4) enhance skills development programs in all fields and all areas . No Sri Lankan child goes through life without developing his or her skills; talent and knowledge. Above all we need an honest political leader

Second rate to Tesla quality and driving distance Friday, 03 March 2023 05:33 PM

Can crow like the greatest while there is no competition from Tesla. Tesla vehicles will be more economical, and have better in-car controls. Always Sri Lanka is lauding second-rate products instead of world-class products.

How would buy a $250,000 car from an unknown manufacturer when cheaper and faster cars available.

This is not about a car. This is about demonstrating that Sri Lanka can become an advanced economy by producing advanced goods and services. We don't have enough land to support export agriculture. Next decade will be a recession decade and tourists won't come. Even if they do, they will be poor backpackers. So let's look at technology.

Anyone can build few cars. Challenge is to mass produce.

mas produce a sports car like this. Stop using illicit substances and start talking sense by congratulating the VEGA team.

Top marks and kudos to Vega who have proved they have the knowledge and capability to produce a great product. Next stop is to produce a mass-market vehicle for daily practical use.

Great, well done, should have received official road transport recognition months ago. But how about now producing vehicles with a known global demand, like electric microvans for urban last mile deliveries in the EU and US?
