MP Namal Rajapaksa has demanded a clarification from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in relation to an alleged unpaid electricity bill by him being circulated on social media under the letterhead of the CEB.

In a letter to the CEB, the MP has requested the CEB to provide him with accurate details of the electricity bill being circulated on social media so that he could respond accordingly if it is an authentic document.

The CEB, in response to an RTI filed by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Council member Nalin Hewage, said it had borne a cost of Rs. 26, 82,246.57 in electricity charges for a function held at the house between September 12, 2019 and September 15, 2019.

As such, the electricity bill amounting to Rs. 26, 82,246.57 has not yet been settled.

Hey Namal, your Dad in no longer in power so best thing thing to just pay the Bill. These very bad habits made our country bankrupt.

    Indrajith Friday, 04 August 2023 08:37 PM

Just shut up and pay the bill. If you can't, then appeal to the SJB slush fund to pay it on your behalf.

Ask your family members to return back all looted money ...it is your party that messed the economy of this country...

Namal may have thought it was a wedding gift from CEB to him.

    Citizens Friday, 04 August 2023 08:49 PM

The whole country is demanding that you and your family pay back all the money that was robbed.

    DOT Friday, 04 August 2023 08:53 PM

    One country one law!

    Nimal Friday, 04 August 2023 09:05 PM

Why play hide and seek? First pay the bill, then ask for clarification. Your entire clan are dirty rogues.

    Chux Friday, 04 August 2023 09:08 PM

What is there to clarify you bloody well pay the amount

    joshua Friday, 04 August 2023 10:04 PM

CEB should just a red Notice and disconnect the fellow

    Joe Saturday, 05 August 2023 12:42 AM

Upto the same old tricks. Nothing to clarify. Freeloader!. Pay your bills. Enough living off the government. Disgraceful lowlife!!!

Only MP can get away with such electricity robbery Saturday, 05 August 2023 01:52 AM

President and Parliament are robbing the CEB of it's bills by not taking court action against MPs with such massive electricity bills. All the talk of improving the nation and getting rid of corruption come to nothing when such daylight robbery is taking place. Who can trust the Parliament MPs from SLPP when they behave like this?

    Danny R Saturday, 05 August 2023 03:28 AM

It is some three years since the wedding took place and in the vocabulary of Rajapakse's -"it is water under the bridge" like all the killings and looting that went in this country.

    Ram Saturday, 05 August 2023 03:36 AM

The details obtained by JVP pursuant to RTI laws is disputed by this parasite Namal. CEB too faulted for not prosecuting Namal for 4 years to recover payment. The delay can give Namal an opportunity to say that the claim is prescribed/out of time

Political interference to prevent Namal being prosocuted Monday, 07 August 2023 09:40 AM

While Mahinda was PM, and Gota President they can order CEB chairman to take no action. If the Minister was SLPP same problem.

    Ram Saturday, 05 August 2023 03:38 AM

Namal talking big all the time is a first class cheat who must be exposed well and truly. Bribery must ask him to explain his assets that he has accumulated and I am sure he will be caught

    Patriotic Saturday, 05 August 2023 04:13 AM

I don’t think Namal can remember that he got married and used electricity from tax payers expense to celebrate his so called extravagant wedding during the given period. Politicians memory are like computer memory only last while it’s on power. These people are shame for Sri Lanka

Herman Perera Saturday, 05 August 2023 05:41 AM

APPOINT A 7 MEMBER COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE

    Keerthi Saturday, 05 August 2023 06:25 AM

Just only electricity for a function is over 2.5 million. Whar about other expenses. Alais what a small function of poor Rajapaksas. Everybody knows the Next question. How these money found and whose this money. This may be only anothr news. No result. People getting fool.

    DOT Saturday, 05 August 2023 06:50 AM

Can we (ordinary citizens ) also ask such clarification from CEB?

Asoka Goonawardena Saturday, 05 August 2023 08:15 AM

You want clarifications after 4 years . What a joke . This day light robbing of people's funds, Family has already taken enough

    Dinesh Saturday, 05 August 2023 08:34 AM

Did they ask for clarification when they were steeling the country's wealth

    Anthony Saturday, 05 August 2023 09:05 AM

HE DOES ALL THE WRONG AND ASK FOR CLARIFICATIONS AND TALKS BIG.

CEB has an attitude problem Saturday, 05 August 2023 09:12 AM

I was given an Electricity bill for an empty house that was kept closed for 6 months. When I went to CEB office, for clarification, the woman at the counter sternly ordered me to pay the amount to the bank and come back for explanation. This is how, CEB deals with customers. What happened to that attitude?

Another tall story Monday, 07 August 2023 09:37 AM

You should've kept an eye on the what the meter readings were before and after the six months. If there is electricity somehow being used you get bill. You should have pulled out the main fuse, and turn off the trip at least, otherwise just get disconnected if you have so much problem. You waste everybody time, including meter reader with your unverifiable claims.

    Sokrates Saturday, 05 August 2023 09:18 AM

Then also ask for clarification of the unpaid CTB bills for the use of buses and unresolved fuel deals with your Dubai company.

    DOT Saturday, 05 August 2023 01:56 PM

The wedding's electricity bill is 2.6 million! What was the wedding costs ?

    Grace Saturday, 05 August 2023 02:23 PM

If former president's son doesn't pay electricity bills for 4 years, it's ok. If an ordinary citizen does not pay bill for 2 months, his power supply would be disconnected. What a unique system?

Lester Croos Dabrera Saturday, 05 August 2023 03:09 PM

    Nice

    Ganesh Saturday, 05 August 2023 04:01 PM

CEB and it Rajapakshe lackeys held the Proverbial Lampu for this pricks wedding

    Concerned Saturday, 05 August 2023 04:06 PM

Immediately after the GCE(OL) exams concluded in June this year, LECO disconnected the electricity supply in a number of small houses(most just one roomed) in a “watte” in my town. Most residents (day laborers who eke out a living)are still without electricity, baking in their homes which have hardly any ventilation. I was surprised to hear an OL student say that he is grateful to LECO for holding on until the exams were over, because his family was at fault for non payment and LECO had no choice but discontinue the supply. I wonder what the young lad will think when he sees this article.

    K. Ranee Saturday, 05 August 2023 06:51 PM

Everybody knows that your Grand Mama 's and Grand Papa's monument (tomb) at Hambanthota was built at the expense of public money. Only Namal baby does not know.

Loku horage podi hora Sunday, 06 August 2023 03:13 AM

The citizens of the country demand an clarification and an full scale investigation into the bribe you took from the Australian company that supplied medical equipment to Hambantota hospital. I guess we will have to wait until JVP comes to power.

    CDD Monday, 07 August 2023 02:59 AM

Simply show your proof of payment. Why do you need more clarification.

UMAS ALI Monday, 07 August 2023 12:56 PM

ceb should NOT provide clarification, otherwise ceb should provide clarification to all the customers to be fair, just take him to court and the lawyers will decide
