Cabinet paper would be brought in soon to ban tuition classes during school hours, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said today.
He told Parliament that tuition classes would be banned from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on weekdays.
Minister Kariyawasam said schools had been provided with sufficient teachers and Principals and added that more teachers would be recruited this year to fill vacancies left.
"We thought tuition classes emerged due to the lack of teachers. But it is not so. They have become a fashion today," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

I have no problem with this decision. But it will affect differently to the normal middle class students and prevailed first class students. People who has money has no problem with hiring a tuition master for individual classes. Think about it.

Only the poor and ordinary class will be hit. The rich have one on one private tuition classes, which they cannot ban. You must ensure that not only do we have sufficient teachers but also that they teach well. Most teachers sleep in school and become very active when giving tuition. No one checks the efficiency of these school teachers.

the solution is simple. If students don't have 80% attendance and satisfactory progress at school without valid reason, then they should contribute towards cost of their government exams, text books, uniforms and services.

If the Teachers and the School were Good - why you need Tuition. In the 1960/70's we passed with Flying Colors without Tuition to a Single Subject.
