Have they ridiculously arrested the innocent workers of these places?. Instead they should arrest the owners. This is justice in SL style. This country is an utter joke. No wonder people are on the streets protesting about these morons. As always, the most useless Police service in the world, targeting wrong people and not touching politicians and their goons.

Toni Gunatilleke Sunday, 20 November 2022 11:26 AM

Sam that's why Basil has come to rescue them.

De Silva Sunday, 20 November 2022 08:35 AM

Most probably the brothel operators didn’t pay the bribe money as demanded by the Negombo Police. We are proud to have the second most corrupt and violent police in the world. Of course the first position goes to the Indian Police.

    vince Sunday, 20 November 2022 10:33 AM

where did you get these statistics, or did you make it up as you went along with this comment? We know our police and the political establishment are corrupt and led by criminals but do come with credible statistics.

Gama Rala Sunday, 20 November 2022 09:33 AM

This was a big mistake. All three are owned by pohottuwa PM's.

    Jude Sunday, 20 November 2022 09:48 AM

If you allow to cultivate cannabis in SL then Brothels should be legalized!! Yeah!!

    Jude Sunday, 20 November 2022 09:55 AM

The crime rate very high but police wasting time on raiding brothels!! Huh!! Once the women out from jail they're gonna ply on same trade!! What's gonna change!???

    William Sunday, 20 November 2022 09:58 AM

But we thought that 'night life' was to be the 'in-thing' along with cannabis!

You can postpone anything in the world but not hunger. So in this present skyrocketing COST OF LIVING, and NO job opportunities, what else they could do.

Mohammed Ameen Sunday, 20 November 2022 11:05 AM

Neither the authorities allow them to leave the country on any visa to earn a living nor do they allow them to earn locally. What do these women do for their living. Fools running this country

    L gunasekera Sunday, 20 November 2022 11:11 AM

I am very much convinced this poor ladies doing this to feed their families. They didn’t steal anything. They got the money for pleasing someone. Can police find some other jobs to them . Please don’t hurt there dignity.

    Radar Sunday, 20 November 2022 11:35 AM

One has to feel sorry for the plight of these women taking up the oldest profession known to man. BUT why should these poor women take up this profession? The answer should come from those who robbed and pillaged the country for their personal benefit. Before summarily finding these women guilty please ask Rajapakse's where they have stashed all the Billions of US$ stolen from the country? This is the root cause for these women to take up this profession.

    Reformist Sunday, 20 November 2022 11:36 AM

When you look at SL Police and CID (most useless), they may have the most number of cases to handle in the world. Just about every Tom, Dick and Harry makes a complaint to CID (rightly so), seeking justice to millions of things, big and small, from corrupt practices to stealing a coconut. Can anyone pls point out to me a single corrupt person or politician or public servant whom they have or SL courts successfully prosecuted and sent to jail? The country is full of jokers and only successful prosecution would be for the innocent poor people stealing a coconut to feed their families, or a poor woman working in a brothel with no alternative.

How come that these illicit joints did not come to the notice of the long arm of the law in the past ? was it because the information was there and some type of retainer was provided by the owners behind this illegal matter. Now when this SOMETHING is deprived by the owners have the authorities gone into action by changing the gears to maximum speed.? In anything the brunt of anything falls to the lowest category of workers depending on this income to keep their home fires burning for the upkeep of their families !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dee Sunday, 20 November 2022 03:01 PM

They should have hugged the people who came to arrest them! Too late.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Sunday, 20 November 2022 03:14 PM

Allow women to earn their living in whatever form they wish, this was the oldest profession on earth, police must indulge in crime prevention, drug trafficking and maintenance of peace.

Eri Claue Sunday, 20 November 2022 04:15 PM

Maybe the SPA run by Ganja Dayana. Most of the SPA are doing the same. Police must check all the SPA in their own area.

Common man Sunday, 20 November 2022 09:59 PM

Please please please legalise sex trade. Arrest and prosecute the people who have taken billions out of this country.

Why is it always that only the women are penalised? What about the men who patronise these places and the owners? They should be penalised too. Most of the times the women are forced into this situation because of the economic nightmare they face. This issue should be addressed humanely and find ways to help these women out of this cycle.

    Imtias Monday, 21 November 2022 10:20 AM

Eventually the state will sell this trade to a foreign company and establish a legalized brothel depriving the desperate locals from earning a living

Andrew Silva Monday, 21 November 2022 11:36 AM

Hear they are arrested. But they have a free pass to go to the Middle East. Our Police and Politicos can’t see their actions. What hypocrites. Of cause they bring a lot of foreign currency and disease.

Deby John Monday, 21 November 2022 03:32 PM

Many Poor Sinhalese Ladies are forced or manipulated into this profession that they don’t want to pursue. Police must first arrest those guys who operate the business. Presidents and prime ministers from the time of independence messed up the country in style. Poor Sinhalese women ended up in the Middle East as House maids and those who remained in The country resorted to selling their bodies.

    Jayantha Monday, 21 November 2022 04:31 PM

Legalize this trade!!! When Sri Lanka desperately needs US Dollars, this will be a good foreign income generator! Legalize brothels and impose a TAX which will again bring income to the government! Impose a license to prostitutes who will be required to have a medical examination every week, again income to the government's health sector! etc. etc. If "Cansa" can be allowed, why not prostitution

    Jason Monday, 21 November 2022 08:43 PM

De Silva it's the likes of you that have got this country in a mess. The constant comparison with India and your fight to go to any extent even if it means getting in bed with the Chinese is why you need a bailout to even get out of bed. Atleast the indian police and army isn't under the global scanner
