Steps have been taken to strengthen security of Parliamentarians and their residences following a request made by the party leaders, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeyawardane informed Parliament today.
He told Parliament that Defence Secretary and Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security were directed to order the IGP to take necessary action to initiate a special security plan and to provide additional security to the MPs' and their residences.
He said party leaders informed him that their lives were at risk on their way to Parliament to attend sessions and getting back home.
The Speaker said preliminary action has already been taken to beef up security of Parliamentarians. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Every MP is a public servant, who represents a constitue, the people have sent them to parliament, if so why are you so scared of the same people who elected you, if you have done the right thing by the same people who elected you? Why spend state money for protection, you should be able to walk on the streets without fear. Why are you so scared that you need security if you haven't done any thing wrong? Isn't this enough evidence to prove that the 225 1 in parliament are undemocratic and have lied and deceived the people and are not serving the people ? This is the very reason people say 225 1 should go home. You dont need a degree in rocket science to under this.

Earlier an MP was provided 02 constables and recently this was increased to 06 including an SI, for protection. What more is the Speaker talking about ?
