SLC surplus does not reflect correct picture: Hesha Withana

Continuing his attacks on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Hesha Withnage alleged that SLC has tried to mislead the public by creating a wrong picture of its financial position by manipulating its accounts for 2022.

“The claim made by SLC in its accounts that its surplus was Rs 6.3 billion is far from the truth,” the MP alleged

“The surplus is inflated with the devaluation of the rupee. The rupee value of the US dollars held by SLC has increased by the devaluation of the Sri Lanka rupee. Another reason for the inflation of the surplus is the increase of interest rates. SLC has received a higher rate for its bank deposits as a result of the rates hike last year. Accordingly, the real surplus of SLC is a little more than Rs. 300 million for the year 2022,” he said.

“In addition, the legal expenditure of SLC has also increased because of the number of legal cases filed against various persons during 2022."

“There is a disturbing trend of trying to buy over those who reveal financial scams in Sri Lanka. I too have had the same experience as someone tried to bribe me in order to silence me, " the MP claimed

“We will reveal much more when Parliament takes up an adjournment debate on the SLC scams during the next sessions,” he also said.

Not only SLCricket even listed companies had to face the dilemma when on Marxh 16th just 14 days before the year end the dollar sky rocketed from 203 to 360. So be happy that late Gamini Dissanayake (Unp) in the 1980s worked hard to get Sri Lanka to become a test playing nation and now we earn in dollars.

SLC is more powerful than the Minister of Sports and even the President of Sri Lanka. I hope all MPs in the Parliament will honestly try to expose wrongdoing of SLC Executives and force the Government to take proper actions against wrongdoers.

There should be a maximum term of two years for the SLC officials. The real reason for corruption is because the same old gang of crooks have controlled SLC for too long.

Parliament should have more authority to control SLC affairs!! ICC corrupted to the core as ICC not held accountable or responsible for their affairs to any governing authority!!

Without smoke no fire. SLC has many loopholes as their Management is corrupted this is a known story. Best thing Hersha MP along with his SJB collogues should have a open debate with SLC board members to find the truth. It is very danger if such allegations against SLC.

Other than the Sports Minister no other parliamentarians should not interfere with SLC. Sports Minister is not capable of handling any issues and he should step down.
