Regulating of international schools will begin next year, Minister of Education Susil Premajaynatha told Parliament today.
Responding to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, the Minister said the Department of Education will only look at the available space in schools, available facilities and other criteria such as education qualifications of teachers. “We don’t intend to control any other aspects pertaining to international schools,” the Minister said.
“International schools also come under the purview of Child Protection Authority and this institution can look into any incidents of child abuse in these schools,” he said.
Earlier the Opposition Leader questioned whether the international schools fall under the purview of the Child Protection Authority. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Whatever schools we have our standard of education is lower than average compared to the rest of the world. Our graduates set a good example.

Susil is unfit for any ministerial portfolio. Lately, I was watching his debates over internet, talks 'malle pol' and always trying to self exalt himself. Not sure what was his PhD theme and which University awarded him Back in 60 to 70 s only selected few , with first class and batchtops were selected for PhDs and not the ordinary blokes viz Susil, Bandula a few

What a joker. First regulate the public schools properly. SL education system is so far behind other countries.

Our inter-nasanal escools are full with teachers from the Maha Vidyalaya's how on earth they are called International except for two or three, schools. Standard and syllabus could be different but the approach is the same, money hungry Mudalali's and their political henchmen have already destroyed the education and the very few discerning teachers. Please x'cuse my miss-takes!

Have a grading system for every school based on facilities available grades available streams available number of teachers number of extra curricular activity number of sports with coaches etc. eg UAE schools. principal promotions too allow the the best of the very best to be in super grade schools based on measurable criteria such as a certified counselor graduate minimum years of experience as a principal etc.

Don't have time mate, as this government will surely collapse some time next year. Absolutely nothing going in favour of normalisation of tourist arrivals. Without tourism SL is on logs. So far nothing to rejuvenate export economy. All agricultural and industrial output catering to the domestic market.
