Former Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, who arrived at the Katunayake international airport last night, was not allowed to leave the country and turned away by the  Immigration and Emigration officials, a Department spokesman said.

He said the former parliamentarian reached the airport to leave for the USA to participate in a concert.

He intended to board the Qatar Airways aircraft at 8.15 last night, en route to the USA.

He was stopped because of the travel ban imposed by the courts in connection with the cases pending against him. (T.K.G. Kapila)

Yes, law should be applied to each citizen equally , whoever he or she is.

Ranjan should hire Sumanthiran to challenge this decision in court. Then probably Ranjan would be send to prison again. Recall Sumanthiran defended Ranjan in the earlier case which resulted in Ranjan spending yrs in prison .

Is he not aware of the travel ban imposed on him. This guy thinks just because he acts in 3rd class movies and popular amongst a certain group of people he is above the law.

Sad Country Friday, 28 October 2022 08:58 AM

From what I see for the reason for the present plight of Sri Lanka is because of the curse brought upon itself by its useless politicians and the crippled legal system that has caused injustices to innocent people. The country will pay more in the future because it citizens continuously curse almost everything in the country. For a country to prosper, its citizens should bless its political leaders, their motherland and have faith and trust in its legal system and be happy and content with its police force and armed forces. It is the total opposite in your country.
