The Dummalasuriya Police has launched an investigation into a clash at a mosque at Yagamwela in Dummalasuriya in which two persons were injured.

Police said the clash took place on Friday during a prayer at the mosque.

They said the clash erupted between two groups in the mosque following a dispute over the collection of money from the worshipers to pay the Moulavi who had come to perform the prayer.

Police said a matter regarding a Muslim school located near the mosque had also led to the clash.

Two persons were injured in the clash and were admitted to the Kuliyapitiya Hospital.

Police said investigations are underway to arrest the suspects under the supervision of the in-charge of the Chilaw Division.(DSB)

You all are missing an important point. A Muslim Alim (No Priesthood in Islam) is a paid worker in the mosque. Mosques do not have regular income and the Alim does not inherit any privilege like in a Buddhist temple or church. Cash is collected from people who come to pray and paid to the person who conducts the prayer. This is the true situation. But accumulation of wealth in places of worship leads to corruption, rivalry and even murder of high priests. History bears witness.

Rahalamy I agree with you . It is duty of this government to Equally treat all religious leaders in this country . Monks; gurus; priests and Moulavi all should get some manthly payment so that they don't need to collect money from public like this . Spiritual and ethical and moral needs of all community must be catered by this government .
