Police have initiated investigations into the installation of a modern camera in the ladies toilet of a leading private education institute conducting classes for Advanced Level students.

A school girl who noticed the suspicious equipment had complained to the teachers and other students. Police said they initiated investigations on the parents’ complaint.

The OIC of the Gampaha Police said that they have recorded the statements of 15 individuals including the owner of the education institute. However, no one had been arrested so far in this connection.

A senior official of the Gampaha Police Information Technology Division said they examined the equipment to find that it transmitted scenes live to be watched in a cellular phone or a computer.

Police said the students in the tuition class were now attending the AL examinations and steps would be taken to arrest the suspect after recording their statements.(Tony Karunanayaka and Tilakaratne Disanayake)

The girl who initially noticed the camera should first be questioned on her smartness in detection and whether she has had any past bad experience .
