President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted 250 to 300 liquor licenses after he assumed duties as the Minister of Finance, NPP MP Vijitha Herath alleged today.
He told Parliament that the new Betting and Gaming Levy (Amendment) Bill will allow the issuing of unlimited numbers of licenses for casinos in the country apart from the already existing four.
Speaking during the debate on the Betting and Gaming Levy (Amendment) Bill, the MP said there are only two casinos in Singapore while there is only one casino in Malaysia.
"After the new Betting and Gaming Levy (Amendment) Bill is enacted, an unlimited number of casinos will be established in the country. This is a serious situation," he said.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Stop licensing alcohol outlets. Every supermarket, shop, restaurant or guesthouse should be able to sell alcohol without any problems, 24/365. This will limit the black market and corruption in this area.

Those who want to consume liquor will continue to do so irrespective of the number of bars in the country. Limiting them is not going to stop consumption. Those who refrain will continue to do so. If you are against it, don't drink and don't promote it. Just making comments in the parliament will not help in any way.

True Ranil is simply issuing Liquor permits, but there are no sales for our products as the prices are very high. Even former Minister Johnston also had got six liquor permits to operate at Kurunegala District.

Ranil Wickramasinghe is only issuing Liquor permits but he will never come and sit with us and drink maintaining his prestige. But Mahinda too issued liquor permits but he comes and sits with us or send Namal to drink with us local arrack not whisky with Pork
