Police officers who acted on illegal orders must remember that someday they will have to pay for their illegal activities, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Saliya Pieris said.

He said in a Facebook post that police officers who engaged in unlawful acts had to face the music alone and that their masters were nowhere around to protect them.

"I have seen police officers who engaged in unlawful acts and violated the rights of people in order to satisfy their bosses, having to pay for their misdeeds. Some paid by way of compensation and loss of their promotions. Others had to face jail terms after being found guilty of criminal acts.

"When these things happened, their masters were nowhere around to protect them. They had to face the music alone. The wheels of justice may grind slowly but they will surely grind," he further said in the post.

When lawyers help criminals after taking money it is a job , when police help criminals by taking money it is a crime.

Did you see the venom in the police officers faces especially that bald one. It was like fighting a real terrorist. Shame on the Police.

    Gayan Monday, 10 October 2022 02:42 PM

What about the crimes committed by so called lawyers. You will have to seek protection from the same police when justice comes looking for you.

Those guys in uniform are behaving violating all the laws, norms and decencies while they are being paid by the peoples hard earned public funds. They will have to be reminded of the fact that this is not colonial time and they can’t continue beating and harassing citizens of the very people they are duty bound to protect.

Oh, you're not seeing the failed democracy we're in. Understanding the situation, hope you realise you might along with other people might have to fund for freedom fighters to break this cycle of government instructed police action!

Gayantha Hemachandra Monday, 10 October 2022 03:31 PM

Right is right and wrong is wrong. Some guys in support of those in uniforms try to justify what some policemen did to unarmed civil people at Galle Face yesterday evening. People have constitutionally guaranteed rights to peaceful gatherings, expressing of ideas and protests . Quoting sections from a Colonial Era legislation “ Police Ordinance “ , they are trying to suppress and violate peoples human rights. Guys.. this is not the era of British Raj.. Now people are not subjects but citizens and police should have to learn themselves one way or other to respect peoples human rights.

I saw 80, 90s activity. This is just back to those times again. Still non-democratic and religious values driving for these terrible law man actions. Our executive president has more power to harm over this country than King (no good monarch) Charles even. Government is 100% support of president, with Rajapaksa/Rajapakse taking the lead for support against protest before and even recently!

Behaviour of the police offices yesterday were violating all the laws of the country

One day treatment Monday, 10 October 2022 04:24 PM

Dear Policemen and officers! I have a simple, peaceful suggestion to you all. Do it and see the result. ALL OF YOU, just take leave for ONE SINGLE DAY, and keep away from duty. All those who vomit venom in this page, will realize your service, that you keep awake, so that the citizens can sleep peacefully. If they do not know it, it is your duty to teach them. You can't go on doing this thankless job. Please do it for one day. Either, you will learn or we will learn. This goes to BASL too.

After BASL spoke against freedom fighters when they occupied President's place they had to see this was going to happen. What useless lawyers are they they couldn't fathom their supporting government will bring about more and more wares of brutality. Lawyers have to physically put themselves on the line like Aragalaya youth for me to trust BASL again after their treachery to default the freedom fight movement.

Lankan for unity Monday, 10 October 2022 04:44 PM

Police just doing jobs. If they beat the BASL lawyers after secretly abducting them, they are still doing their job to Sri Lankan non-democratic standards. BASL should've seen this coming. Now they can't fight military and police brutality after asking Aragalya to desist when winning. Security forces know BASL is has mental weaknesses too much to win against them even just with law.
