People requested to display national flag

The Government has requested the public to display the National Flag from February 01 to 07 at all Residences, shops, government and private offices and vehicles in view of the 73rd Independence Day celebrations.

The State Ministry of National Security, Home affairs and Disaster Management has instructed all Heads of Government Institutions to light up all government buildings on February 03 and 04 to celebrate this special occasion.

The 73rd Independence Day celebrations will be held under the theme “An Affluent Tomorrow Prosperous Motherland" at Independence Square, Colombo.

“The program will be conducted by Chamal Rajapaksa, State Minister of National Security, Home affairs and Disaster Management on the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa,” a statement issued by the Information Department said.

It's amazing how shamelessly we are asked to display the national flag as part of the charade we have gone through since 1948 on the 4th of February . An annual Tamasha and the same script that is re read is all the people have got. I bet you my last penny the pandemic management will be featured at this year's independence speech despite it being an utter failure

Displaying national flags is up to the public. No need to request it from the government. Patriotism cannot be brought by requests.

Politicians and their cronies will, and should celebrate the 73rd independence, because it has be so good for them. However, the rest of us? If you ask 100 people between 16 years to 50 years of all walks of life, other than the obviously privileged, how many would say that they wish to get out of this country?

Sometimes you need to remind people which country you are living. Some people live here but they think they are from UK and belong to the Knight families. Government requests people to feel something about the flag. Nothing else. If those cronies want they are free to display their dream country flag on respective national days .

Why can't the Govt distribute national flags do that we can fly same. Buying food is more important rather than buying flags with the meagre salary for poor.
