New appointments will be given on June 16 to 7,500 teachers from Colleges of Education and 5,500 graduate teachers in all three mediums of language, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He said graduate teachers who are below 35 years old will be appointed for subjects such as science, mathematics, technology, language, geography and commerce.

However, the minister said education cannot be developed only by completing physical respurces but needs human resources as well. And for that, the discipline of students is essential.

Also, other misconducts and inappropriate behaviours, such as drugs usage in society, should be prevented from being provided access to all schools.

The minister was also of the opinion that the undisciplined behaviour among the new generation should be changed through an attitudinal and cognitive change, especially with a religious orientation such as piriven education.

Further, commenting on this, the minister said the principals should have freedom in the school administration and that school development societies and past pupils' associations are inappropriately involved in it, and he does not approve of such things at all. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

That is good and but make sure please before you send them into schools to train them first at NIE or in some universities...all these fresh graduates don't know how to teach .. teaching is an arts itself...No all graduates can do that ....please please and please consider to train them first ...Give power and authority to all master training staff to decide who can go to teaching or who can go other professions ...since our later education minister Kannakara we have been appointing teachers like this ...we do this with a good intentions and I don't doubt your sincerity; good intentions; dedication and devotion to this country..I appreciate appreciate your service in this matter but we should send unqualified and unfitting graduates..we will destroy the future of next generations with this wrong policy with your good intention..Think about your good Maths teaching or science teacher in your old days ...why do we prefer some teachers over others ?

You can recruit not 7,500 but even 7 million teachers and the status of education will remain the same. So called learned idiots like you should know it is not the quantity that matters but the plan and quality. Have you found out why there are thousands of three wheeler drivers below the age of 40y but not a professional skilled carpenter or mason?

Dear Spartacus. I totally agree with you that the quality is important in education and specially in teaching.. LK is one of richest countries in the world in Human resources and still sadly we find hundreds of three wheel drivers in all towns..some of them are so clever and talented. our education system has destroyed lives of those people .. Each year schooldrop outs are in thousands and Many of them end as three wheel drivers or doing odd jobs . It is a crime to waste the talents of our next generations...neither political leaders nor community leaders realise this crime they do to our next generations.... We cannot blame uneducated parents for this or young school children...our education policy makers ; school governors; academics ; teachers and politicians must think about this . Our fortune is in the hands of our next generations.. Next decades will be dominated with high skilled professionals and workers . What do our schools do now ? What about our universities?
