The Education Ministry has decided not to have term tests for primary sections, which are scheduled to start their school year in March, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He said the primary sections of schools will start at the end of March next year.

"Those students will be given module exercises from lesson to lesson, and the score records will be collected until the end of the academic year. Later, the evaluation and assessment process will be implemented based on the collected module records and the year end exam," the Minister said.

Necessary changes will be made to the education system, and programs will be prepared to provide more training and study opportunities to the children who will leave the school, including university entrance or technical college programs based on their talent and willingness.

The Minister went on to say that it had been decided to resume school activities by next December, while reducing holidays to cover school education activities. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

In many western countries the process of learning is monitored and observed and evaluated gradually throughout years ... examination and evaluation are two types : teachers have their own evaluation and assessment internally...they know the skills ; talent and knowledge level each student and so they give 40% or 50% score for GCSE and external students are evaluated through written examination by different examination boards with different examinations ..we too need follow some innovative methods in this ..we could have three examination boards in Sri Lanka... COLOMBO examination board; Kandy examination board and North and Eastern examination...pupils should have freedom and liberty to sit for any examination board as they like ...all should be under ministry of education..All must be done in three languages...this make our examination system very much competitive and there will be some kind of intellectual competition between these three examination board to see which one excel

This is good. Testing younger children for academics and grades is useless. It should be only for the purpose of looking for learning disabilities, or if the child is not making progress due to other issues; like health, vision or hearing issues, emotional and psychological issues; and nutritional deficiencies that contribute to learning difficulties. The entire education system should be revamped.

Because it is an extra cost to the government? This government can spend millions on entertaining crooks like basil and wasting funds on checking school children's bags but does not want to spend any money on the education of SL children. This is the self-serving attitude of the degenerates we call politicians in Sri Lanka.
