With the introduction of Fuel Pass QR code, it signifies that more digital solutions are available for the country's burning issues, Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) President Damith Hettihewa said.

Addressing the media, during an event organised in view of the 40th National IT Conference (NICT) which is scheduled to be held on October 12 and 13, he said on the solutions front, we saw how digital platforms can enrich lives with the fuel pass.

That is the reason we need to really echo in this scenario where there are digital solutions which can really make a change, make an impact, and solve problems in an unimaginable manner, he said.

Therefore, we want the policymakers to take note of the situation. The solutions are there on the table all the time, but not picked or utilised, he said.

"The private sector and, through Private Public Partnership (PPP) we can do wonders. We want to highlight matters and want to influence the policymakers to take the fuel pass as an example to solve problems in the country through the digital pathway, "Hettihewa added. Hi tech, just another way to scam. In government IT company repeatedly introduce Microsoft based solution that then need immediate upgrade for even higher cost two year later. They say no more Microsoft support for old version which they built their solution on. Otherwise hack could happen. Deliberate choose quickly outdated Microsoft software for upgrade scam.

Most of the time our top officials gets free laptop and Microsoft office as extra for home by IT company putting in quote. They are just like Arjuna Mahendran the CB Governor come swindler. Sometimes whole decision making board in government all get the perk of laptop. Afterwards, top officials find it easy to ignore about upgrade scam and do choose their greatest gift/bribe provider.

I have been in the forefront of the IT induct for over 4 decades, that is before the word IT was coined. Digital can not solve problems. What is does it make it easy to implement and solve faster, cheaper and error free or less errors. It is still the humans that need to think in the analog world and implement them digitally.

Very appropriate comment. Using buswords wont do anything but show only academic literary. For making activities easy and fast,IT could be helpful.World talking about Digital Economy which is far too much a busword. IT for supporting economic activity to facilitate and simplified is the function. Too much listening snd tolerating to halfing baked and half boiled talkers deceive public and authoroties who are bit of having shyness towards IT. Even interpreting Digitalization, Digitization, Digital Transformation is somewhat horrendous isn't it.

All or more capable IT person all gone overseas or in the process of migrating. Only the older, not capable and scammers are left here. We can't really expect any real capability with IT here, as if they became able they'd migrate to overseas for 10 times the salary.

We find more of high end vehicles with low fuel efficiency on the roads these days. QR is a humbug. It will not work in a country where corruption is institutionalised.

This IT mafia/association is trying to make a quick buck in our needful situation. Big marketing push to get easy funds to feather their nests. Government and public shouldn't fall for this, and instead make thorough check about long term (10 year) costs, including for maintenance. More likely than not, the costs will out weigh the benefits when unsolicited proposal come from our IT company. Our Revenue Department is perpetually being plundered for new software system by IT company. COPE and COPA must continually check about cost overruns, and under-delivery. Of course IT will try to fabricate all sorts of mad reasons, almost like police IGP for national security not to say when gas canister expire.
