Permission will not be granted to run pre-schools without the training provided by the Education Ministry or without a pre-school diploma, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

Addressing an event in Bomiriya, Kaduwela, he said if the minds of three and four-year-old children are confused without a proper system, then school education will not be able to rebuild them. Therefore, it will not be possible to provide the opportunity to hold preschools on a regular basis.

Along with the education reforms, the Education Ministry has started to introduce the English medium in all schools starting from Grade 1 this year. Earlier, it was stated that those in Grade 3 are scared and shy to speak English. But the children starting English in Grade One do not get scared, and do not shy away.

A total of 13,800 teachers were trained for Grade One classes last year. Another batch of 13,800 teachers is currently under training, and this will continue.

Meanwhile, a special programme has been started with the help of UNICEF to uplift primary education.

Moreover, the minister said that education cannot start in the middle and it should start in pre-schools.

There are about 40,000 preschool teachers and about 19,000 preschools. All preschool students finally enter Grade One classes in schools.

Therefore, training will be given for pre-school teachers to conduct their teaching practices within a framework based on activities. These teachers will be given a certificate after completing specific training hours. A diloma certificate will also be given to the preschool teachers who are willing to continue their teaching.

Therefore, it has been decided not to start preschools without the preschool training certificate or a diploma.

In Japan, full attention is given to pre-schools and primary education. The children who score more than 150 will get nine 'A's in their Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Education is a natural process and pupils must learn without so many legal and official hindrance.. The government must have rules and regulations for them but don't push them too much

No fair way for anything here this will only cause more corruption Friday, 04 August 2023 04:43 AM

There is already so much corrupt practices for school admissions. With Preschools being private business, they businessman will now have to pay more bribe as commission every month to get registration. More there is political influence in registrations worse things will get.

This will be like the blind leading the blind. At the very young age itself they will be misled.

    Concerned Friday, 04 August 2023 09:26 AM

This is another move to ruin that basic education the children get. With training by the government the children will be taught only to follow what the government teaches. That is shown by the rulers. Please let them the Pre-Schools run on their own and please do some thing for the National schools. number one is disco[line.

Mr. Minister, our educational system is already in the Black Hole. Constant high flown, talks will not help. The ground situation is different from what you say. Please, for the nation's sake, obtain the views of experts and others in the field of education to prepare a National Educational Policy endorsed by all political parties. Many Ministers have expressed fancy unrealistic dreams having visited Japan, Finland, and South Korea.

Everyone has to conform to a set standard other than the politician.
