The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) today requested the Government should adhere to strict health guidelines to have a successful and safe 73rd Independence Day celebrations on February 4.

Speaking to the media, GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said enforcement could be made for the Independence day celebrations, but should be mindful to hold the event strictly adhering to Health guidelines.

"Armed forces personnel from various areas of the country would come to Colombo to participate at the parades. That would be a very serious problem and could create more clusters in the country," he said.

Therefore, the Epidemiology Unit should intervene and create an environment to control the situation to ensure a successful Independence day event, Dr. Aluthge added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

In fact it shouldn't be held at all. Entirely unnecessary to risk further infections. The patriotic priority is health and food not flag waving.

Why didn't anyone but this strike loving trade unionist think of it. Even an idiot can come with a statement like this which makes Aluthge a dullard of the first order. There is no need to have any celebration in these unprecedented times.
