Colombo, May 10 -  Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to enhance player welfare and incentivizing performance by announcing substantial increases in player fees across all formats, effective immediately.

The decision, aimed at recognizing the efforts and dedication of Sri Lanka's international cricketers, will see 41 players being offered new contracts under six categories: A1, A2, B2, C1, C2, and the 'A' Team.

One of the most notable changes comes in the Test format, where match fees have been doubled, marking a 100 percent increase. Moreover, payments for Test matches will now be determined on a merit basis, reflecting the player's performance and contribution to the team's success.

For One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), match fees have been raised by a commendable 25 percent, acknowledging the challenges and intensity of these shorter formats.

In a move to further recognize excellence, Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to reward players who achieve top rankings in the ICC Player Rankings. Players attaining the title of 'Best Batsman,' 'Best Bowler,' or 'Best All-Rounder' across all formats will receive a special one-time payment.

In addition, players ranking between 2nd and 10th place in the ICC rankings will also be acknowledged with a one-time payment for their outstanding performances.

Can they do this on their own accord? Isn't SLC a State institution?

I've absolutely no issues with SL players making money!! However, the players remuneration should tied up to performance!! At least part of the money should be performance based and winning games. And no performance bonus money when you lose games!! I find players not taking responsibility for losing games. And some players attitude disgusting, yeah.

I find players not taking responsibility, and initiatives when it comes to fitness!! SL fast bowlers lack fitness!! SL players got abysmal record when it's comes to fitness. That is all because the SL cricket management don't insist and instill fitness on players!!

The present bunch of players little thin on skill and talent!! Cricket is a game of results orientated, performance is centre of the issue and winning matters!! Lately wins are hard to come by for SL cricket TEAM. Last thing you want to do is Over compensate underachieving, underperforming , underwhelming ordinary bunch of players!!

Without increasing the fees, it would have been better if the top performers were recognised with handsome cash presents. Then all the players will do their best

For loosing test matches how can an additional payment be made as an incentive unless an extraordinary individual performance like scoring a century and taking five wickets by counting dropped catches of that bowler, by other players?

    What a joke

This looks much better as players will try be in their best so that they can gain performance bonus.... and the end result will be favourable to win more matches and trophies

When players get more COMPENSATION then the Players-Agent get more money and part of that money goes to SLC bigwigs and that's the chain of events!!! Win win situation!! But the fans has to accustom for losing games!!

Well deserved and rewarded for their magnificant performance in the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup being bowled out for 50 runs against India in the preliminaries and ending up at the bottom of the points table .But the good samaritan Jai Shah secretary of the BCCI who is running Sri Lanka Cricket seems to be quite happy to dish out more and more money to Sri Lanka cricket for their own benefit.
