As the imposition of a heavy taxes on people, the professionals in the information technology (IT) sector are preparing seriously to migrate, Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) President Damith Hettihewa said.

While attending the Digital Investment Conference organized to celebration CSSL's the 40th anniversary, he said the local IT sector brings five billion dollars into the country and in order to reach that goal, they need the support of the government.

"There are so many people who are making money from the IT industry. The youth community that earn money from the IT industry does not want their earning to be taxed heavily and used for loss-making institutions.

Therefore, he requested the government to utilize the tax revenue received from the industry for country's education purposes and innovation programs, because the youth community opine that the IT sector does not want to see the revenue generated by it invested on loss-making institutions. If you are abroad, you pay more taxes!

But, you also get more benefits. In Sri Lanka, we only pay taxes and the rest only have frustrations and inefficient government services and 225 takes our tax money.

Yes. Tax should be used for meaning full expenses such as healthcare, education and transportation. But if someone is migrating to another country because of tax, it is foolish. Because other developed countries tax way higher than SL.

Shane Soyza: You pay tax to enhance the quality of life not to make up the losses due to corruption. Plus, you don't pay the same rental for a house in shanty area and in Colombo 7, do you?

Please do so! a) as a short term measure - can get get down better IT specialists from India. b) would pave way for the younger and more tech savvy generation to come up more effectively. Better you go and form some sort of trade union to mess up things further where you go!

Why not get everyone from India? IT, Doctors, laborers ect. One or two IT people will grump but rest will just shut up and migrate. Good luck when you want to import essential items. Current IT sector brings $1 Billion.

The new tax structure basically reverses the crazy and irresponsible tax cuts of Gota in 2019 that partly put the country into the current mess. So the taxes are basically back to where it was a few years ago. While we all would like low or no taxes ... there are expenses to be met and the country just cannot keep printing money to pay our bills.

No youth in any country wants to pay taxes. No one but those in the loss making industry or benefiting would want more losses. However youth lack speaking up about subsided electricity for big show temple means youth of Sri Lanka is disappointing. These people already made their mind up to emigrate or not too. IT workers don't have backbone anyway, to take for next aragalya and this association of want to tax scammer will be ignored by our bad government as idiot technical idealists.

Not only IT, other Professionals also are migrating or planning to do so. THE THING IS, GOTA GAVE THEM A TASTE OF ENJOYING HIGH INCOMES WITHOUT TAXATION AND, NOW THEY COMPLAIN WHEN THEY ARE MADE TO PAY. HOWEVER, THEIR COMPLAINT IS MADE BITTER BECAUSE THEIR TAX MONEY IS USED FOR HATED PURPOSES LIKE TO MAINTAIN CRONY MINISTERS AND STATE MINISTERS.

If you have been residing in a Western country you will realize that the tax authorities in those countries will not spare a person in taxing by opening a file for you and no hanky panky by evading taxes and the employer will also be prosecuted for aiding and abetting not like in Sri Lanka where there are God fathers

With the serious loss of purchasing power, hyper inflation and tax increases, even a 500k salary is not equal to 150k three years ago. Living standard have gone down so much. this is what making professionals including IT sector to migrate.
