A Fundamental Rights petition filed by a protester seeking an order directing the authorities not to remove the structures set up on behalf of the protestors at GotaGoGama was today dismissed by Supreme Court.
The petitioner Nuzly Hameem, a protester who took part in the protests at Galle Face Green since the inception filed this petition naming Inspector General of Police, Army Commander, Secretary to the President and Attorney General as respondents.
The petitioner also sought an order directing the authorities not to interfere with any peaceful protests being carried out by citizens at Galle Face Green, GotaGoGama and its vicinity.
The Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, L.T.B. Dehideniya and H.M.A.D. Nawaz refused to grant leave to proceed with the petition and dismissed accordingly.
Counsel Pulasthi Hewamanna appeared for the petitioner. State Counsel Shaminda Wickrema appeared for the Attorney General.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda )
