With regard to the elephant Agbo which had caught the attention of many lately, Minister of Wildlife Pavithra Wanniarachchi told Parliament today that the animal is getting weaker by the day.
“We are doing our best to cure the elephant who is suffering from gunshot injuries. An advance of Rs 50,000 has been given to the veterinary specialist who is treating the animal. We are also geared to allocate more funds to spend for the animal,” the Minister said.
“We don’t need any foreign assistance to treat the animal,” she added.
Als,o she said there is a suspicion that certain groups are carrying out a scandal over social media by colleting funds on behalf of the animal. No programme has been launched by the government to collect funds for Agbo,” she said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Such a sad state of affairs for our elephants, be them wild or domesticated. What a disgraceful place for an animal to be born into. Sad, just sad. Those who shot this innocent animal and many others who do the most inhuman things to dogs and elephants here, are nothing but vile gutter scum of society. A bunch of sadistic imbeciles in this country supposed to hold firmly onto the practices of the Ven. Gautama Siddhartha, the Buddha. Totally contrarian to what was envisioned by him.
