Parliamentarian Mano Ganesan yesterday requested the government not to divide the country based on race and religion, if the country truly adopts the 'One country, One law' policy.

After placing the first signature on the public petition asking the government to abolish the proposed Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), he said the country should be brought under the concept of 'one country, one nation'.

"If the government can bring this country under 'one country, one nation', we can accept that." But now we have a separate law for the Sinhala community, a separate law for the Tamil and  Muslim communities, "he said.

During the event, he requested the government not to divide the country by treating people based on race, religion and provincial basis. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

The one country one law issue are there only for undeveloped nations. Once the country develop and the people standard of living is high, the one country one law comes automatically. A good example is Singapore and to some extent Malaysia. Even India is moving in the same direction. In my society all races are considered the same. The class comes with the high school attended, not the university. In Japan there is a class based in the university attended.
