A digital platform will be set up to receive people's opinion for the National Council sub-committee on identifying short- and medium-term programs related to economic stabilization, the Committee chairman Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka said today.

He mentioned this when the sub-committee met in Parliament to receive opinions of experts, Parliament Media Unit said.

Officials of the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and Prof. Rohan Samarajeeva were present in this meeting where the current debt situation of the country and possible policy situations in dealing with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were discussed.

The Superintendent and Registrar of the Public Debt Department of the Central Bank Dr. M. Z. M. Aazim said that there will be some comforting change in the existing situation by the coming month of January.

The attention of the committee was drawn to the social pressure caused by maintaining the rupee against the dollar, increasing taxes, and imposing import restrictions in order to stabilize the economy.

The committee also paid attention to the social problems caused by the collapse of small and medium scale industries, high unemployment, increase in poverty etc.

The Chairman informed the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Censors and Statistics to take necessary steps to conduct the survey of families in Sri Lanka immediately.

The chairman also mentioned that since this survey has not been conducted for a period of three years, it will be more appropriate to understand the prevailing social situation and prepare future policies by conducting the survey.

The committee has also planned to submit a detailed report in December that includes proposals related to debt stabilization and various areas that are under pressure in some way due to the government's negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Your own writing is poor. You misspell grammar when you say it second time. Was that you, or do you blame the editing? Maybe 25 years from now almost all Sri Lanka large online publication can be top notch, but even now compared to government authorised channel like daily news which is weak with relevant news, Daily Mirror is super for it's content.

The survey will confirm high cost of living ,high taxes squeezing the life out of the people.Looks like we exist to pay only taxes. What benefit is in store for us?please make it clear if you do have a plan.

No plan, Champika is just trying to get maximum benefit for himself and associates at the next elections. Why would you ever think religious leaning Champika, a full Buddist supremacist, would do anything different to his previous time as MP?

Very good; Improving economy of country is not only raising income all round, but also curtailing waste. You cannot fully eliminate waste. Here is an open suggestion. Curtail wastage in Parliament and its occupants for a start. First, you have to identify them. It drains away valuable resources that can otherwise be utilized to generate income. One hint, stop treating them as super caste! Are you man enough to do it?

What opinion if there is no elected person like the Governor Torrington who taxed pets even. Simply, it is a Colonial rule.

Patali who earlier appeared to be opposed to the current administration, now seem to be upbeat after being made Chairman of the National Council !
