The Dematagoda area where the Indian variant was detected today has remained in isolation since last Saturday (12), Regional Epidemiologist of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Dr Dinu Guruge said.
She said the CMC decided to lockdown the Dematagoda area after they were notified of the suspected presence of the variant.
“Accordingly, we have been conducting random PCR tests in the area. In addition, we will be carrying out random PCR tests in Borella and in other areas of Colombo,” she said.
Dr Guruge also urged the residents of Colombo to immediately visit their CMC sits for testing if they show any symptoms of COVID-19.
“We will be letting the people know the active PCR sites in the City of Colombo on a daily basis. We receive reports within 8-10 hours since the sample is taken,” she added.
The Delta (B.1.617.2/Indian variant) was detected in five samples obtained from Aramaya place, Colombo 09 (Dematagoda) today. (Sheain Fernandopulle)Yendra Silva Friday, 18 June 2021 02:15 AM
