The new Delta branch spreading in Sri Lanka has been officially named as AY.28, an alias of the Sri Lanka lineage which is B.1.617.2.28 .

Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, the head of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology at the Sri Jayewardenepura University stated this in a Twitter message.

There we go again as the Govt is about to lift the lockdown some of those in the State medical field put a spanner in the works. There seems to be a "cold war" going on between the Govt Medical Associations and the Government. As the day approaches the Associations start ringing the alarm bells for reasons best known to them. H.E.President please don't fall into their repeated traps but go ahead and open up the country on 1st Oct and let the economy move forward and thus relieve the suffering masses
