An Ayurvedic doctor was hacked to death by a beggar near a leading supermarket in the Battaramulla area in Thalangama last night, the police said.
The Talangama Police initiated investigation following an alert that a man had died on admission to the Koswatta Hospital when he was found fallen near a supermarket in Battaramulla.
The deceased was a 57 year-old resident of Pothuarawa Road, Malabe.
Investigations revealed that the beggar had stabbed the doctor to death with a sharp weapon following an argument with a beggar who was nearby when the deceased was leaving the supermarket.
Police said the incident was captured in the CCTV in the supermarket and the police suspect the doctor was killed following to an argument as he refused to give money to the beggar.
The suspect fled the scene and the Thalangama Police are on the hunt to apprehend him. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Please don't give beggers money as they are not real beggers.Use your discretion. My sympathy with the doctor.This is a good opportunity for the police to break the begger's mafia.Don't be surprised if a politican is involved.

Do not encourage beggars at Traffic Signals even appears to be genuine. Again near ATM, There are genuine specially very old, if are satisfied may donate.

Isuspect is a begger mafia going on at Keells Maharagama,(on High Level Road) the begger boss comes at around 10 pm to collect dues in a three wheeler. Virtually every Super Market parking lot has beggers now. When offered work they do not want to come.
