A freighter carrying 3,900 metric tons of gas sailed into the Colombo Port yesterday and the unloading process is to begin soon, Litro Gas Lanka Limited Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe said.
He said the unloading of the gas began around 7.00 pm yesterday.
"The gas cylinder refilling process is currently underway with around 100,000 gas cylinders could be released to the market per day," he said.

What is this pea-brained imbecile who heads the vipath maga speaking? This stock of gas is barely sufficient for 3 days. People have been without gas for weeks on end. How is their demand to be met? They will not be able to light the traditional hearth at the auspicious time this new year.

Gas shipments are arriving but people are always in the queues . There are people who could not get a gas cylinder for the last few months as the agents are upto all sorts of tricks to sell it at a higher price. LITRO gas Co must supervise the agents to supply each household atleast one cylinder every 6 weeks. There is no proper local distribution scheme enabling each householder to get one cylinder for 2 to 3 months.

I am a resident in Modera Mutual. The nearest Litro agent who was supplying our gas for the last several years now refusing to enter our name or give a token. When we request for a token he shouts at us in a uncourtious manner. For the last three months he has not supplied us a single gas cylinder. You all must introduce a system that everyhold gets a gas cylinder.
